When to come in

Signs your oil needs changing.

If your car is doing any of this, it's time. The good news: most of these are easy to spot if you know what to look for. The better news: an oil change is one of the cheapest things you can do to keep your engine alive — especially in Atlanta, where stop-and-go traffic on I-285, I-20, and the Cascade Road corridor wears engines harder than steady highway driving.

Oil light on the dash

Don't ignore it. If the light is on, you're either low or overdue. Either way, get in soon.

5,000 miles since last change

Modern full synthetic generally goes 5,000 miles. Past that, you're rolling the dice on engine wear.

Engine sounds rougher than usual

Old oil loses its ability to cushion moving parts. If your engine is louder, it's probably time.

Oil looks dark or dirty on the stick

Pull the dipstick. If the oil looks like coffee instead of honey, you're overdue.

How it works

A real oil change, done right.

We drain your old oil, swap in a new filter, and refill with the right oil for your car — synthetic blend, full synthetic (our standard), or multi-grade synthetic, depending on what your engine was built to take. That's the basic part. The rest is what most quick-lube places skip.

While we're under there, we top off your washer fluid, check your tire pressure (and add air if any tires are low), and visually inspect your brakes, tire tread, and coolant levels. If we spot something — a wet spot under the engine, a leaking hose, a tire with worn-out tread — we'll show you, explain it, and let you decide.

No upsells. No "while we're in there" tricks. Just the work you came in for, plus the safety checks we'd want done on our own cars. Most of our regulars come over from Cascade Heights, West End, Adamsville, and East Point — and we treat every car like it's owned by a neighbor, because most of them are.

What we don't do.

We don't run an assembly-line "stay in your car" oil change. If you want a 7-minute drive-through experience, you'll be happier elsewhere. We also don't quote oil change pricing for luxury or performance European vehicles online — those need a quick call so we can confirm the right oil spec and capacity for your specific car.

The difference

The Dad's way vs. the old way.

Category Dad's way Old way
Pricing Transparent, upfront pricing vs. Mystery prices
Service Fast service & clean space vs. Long waits & loud lobbies
Support Questions welcomed. Explanations offered. vs. Vague answers and blank stares
Attitude We explain everything. Like your dad would. vs. You Googling 'do I need this?'
Questions welcomed

Common questions about our oil changes.

If yours isn't here, just call. We're not going to make you fill out a form for a basic question.

How long does an oil change take at Dad's?

Most customers are in and out in 30 minutes or less. We don't run an assembly line — but we don't waste your time either. If we spot something during your visit, we'll show you, but we won't hold your car hostage trying to upsell you on stuff you don't need.

Do I need an appointment?

No, walk-ins are welcome. That said, booking online takes about 60 seconds and guarantees we'll have a bay open when you arrive. If you're driving over from work or running errands, we recommend booking — you'll be in and out faster.

What kind of oil do you use?

Full synthetic for every standard oil change — usually 0W-20, 5W-20, or 5W-30 depending on your vehicle. We carry quality brands and use the viscosity grade your manufacturer specifies, not whatever we have most of in stock.

How often should I really change my oil?

For most modern cars on full synthetic, every 5,000 miles or 5 months — whichever comes first. The "every 3,000 miles" rule is from the 1970s and conventional oil; it's outdated. If you're a high-mileage Atlanta commuter or you tow regularly, we may recommend slightly shorter intervals.

Why does your oil change start at $56 when other places advertise $40?

Two reasons. First, our $56 is synthetic blend — most $40 advertised oil changes are conventional oil with synthetic upcharges added at the counter, ending up well over $56 by the time you pay. Second, our prices include tax and shop fees. The $40 sign on a chain shop's window almost never matches the receipt.

Our standard is full synthetic at $88 — that's what most modern cars need. Multi-grade synthetic ($98) is for cars that require non-standard viscosities. Either way, the price you see is the price you pay.

Do you service luxury and European vehicles?

Yes, but pricing varies based on oil spec and capacity. Give us a call before you come in and we'll quote you accurately. European vehicles often need specific oil specifications (BMW LL-01, Mercedes 229.5, etc.) that cost more — but we'll always tell you the price before any work starts.

Where is the shop, and is parking easy?

We're at 2270 Cascade Road in southwest Atlanta — right on the Cascade corridor, between Adams Park and Beecher Hills. From I-285, take the Cascade Road exit and head east about 2 minutes. From I-20, take the Cascade exit and head south. Free on-site parking; pull in, we'll see you.

Will I get reminders for my next oil change?

Yes. We'll mark your service in our system and send you a reminder when you're due. You can also set your own reminder for 5 months from your service date — that's our recommendation for most cars.
