About

We started Dad's because car care should feel good.

Not stressful. Not confusing. Not one of those "hope I don't get scammed" errands. Here's how we got here, and what we're trying to do.

Why we called it Dad's.

You know that feeling when something on your car starts making a noise, and you're not sure what it is, or whether it's serious, or who to even call? Most of us don't have someone we trust to ask. So we either Google it (terrifying), or we go to a shop and hope for the best.

For a lot of people, "calling Dad" was the move. Dad knew cars. Dad would tell you straight whether you needed to spend money or whether the noise was nothing. Dad wouldn't try to sell you stuff you didn't need.

That's the feeling we wanted to recreate. So we built a shop around it — and named it for the role it's trying to play in your life.

"We're not your average auto shop. We're a new kind of neighborhood garage — one built on trust, transparency, and no-BS service."

What's broken about most auto shops.

The auto repair industry has a trust problem, and most people in it know it. Surveys consistently show that mechanics are among the least-trusted professions in America — somewhere between used car salesmen and politicians. That's not because most mechanics are dishonest. It's because the structure of the business creates incentives that work against you.

Most shops are paid on commission. The more they sell, the more they make. So when you bring your car in for a $40 oil change, there's pressure on the technician and the service writer to find an extra $400 worth of work to recommend. Sometimes that work is real. Often, it's "preventative" recommendations that you don't actually need yet — or maybe ever.

Add in mystery pricing, vague explanations, and the assumption that customers don't know any better, and you've got an industry where the average person walks into a shop already on their guard, expecting to be taken advantage of.

We thought there had to be a better way to run a shop. So we built one.

How Dad's is different.

We're not anti-upsell — sometimes your car genuinely needs more work than you came in for, and we'll tell you. But we're allergic to fake upsells, padded estimates, and the "while we're in there" trick that turns a $50 visit into a $500 surprise.

Here's what we actually do differently:

Transparent pricing, posted publicly. Our synthetic blend oil change starts at $56. Our emissions test is $20 flat. We post our prices on our website and on a board behind the counter. No "it depends," no "let me check with the manager." And tax and shop fees are already baked in — the number you see is the number you pay.

We show you the parts. If we recommend replacing something, we bring you the worn part — or take you out to the lift to look at it on the car. You don't have to take our word for it. You can see for yourself.

We tell you when not to spend money. If your brakes have life left in them, we'll tell you. If a noise is harmless, we'll explain it and send you on your way. If a "recommended" service is really just a profit center for the shop, we'll skip it.

We focus on what we're good at. Oil changes, brakes, emissions, and routine maintenance. We don't try to be a transmission shop and a body shop and an alignment shop all at once. We do a few things really well, and when something falls outside our wheelhouse, we'll send you to a specialist we trust.

Who's behind the shop.

Dad's is owned and operated by Charlie T., a longtime Atlanta resident who got into this business after one too many bad experiences at chain auto shops. Our team is small, experienced, and chosen carefully — the kind of mechanics who actually like talking to customers and explaining what they're doing.

We're located at 2270 Cascade Road in southwest Atlanta, serving the Cascade, West End, Adamsville, East Point, and surrounding communities. We're not a chain. We're not VC-backed. We're one shop, focused on doing right by our neighbors.

What we're building.

The long-term plan is to grow Dad's into a small group of neighborhood shops across Atlanta — starting with our Cascade Road location and expanding into other parts of the metro that are underserved by honest, transparent auto care. Each shop will operate with the same standards, the same transparency, and the same "explain everything" approach.

We're not trying to be the next Take 5 or Jiffy Lube. We're trying to be the shop your friends recommend, the one you trust, the one your kids will keep going to after they buy their own cars.

It starts with one shop on Cascade Road, one customer, one oil change at a time. Thanks for being part of it.

What we stand for

Six things we promise.

01.

We'll never sell you what you don't need.

If it can wait, we'll tell you it can wait. If you don't need it at all, we'll tell you that too.

02.

We'll explain everything.

If you don't understand what we're recommending, that's our problem to fix, not yours.

03.

We'll show you the part.

You don't have to take our word for it. If we recommend a fix, we'll show you why.

04.

We'll quote you before we work.

You'll know the number before we lift a wrench. No "while we're in there" surprises.

05.

We'll stand behind our work.

10 months / 10,000 miles on labor. If something we did goes wrong, bring it back.

06.

We'll tell you when we can't help.

If a job is outside what we do well, we'll send you to someone who'll do it right.
